Abstract

PURPOSE: To adequately improve the titled stress corrosion cracking resistance by beforehand giving strain in the axial direction of steel pipes to the weld zone after butt welding of austenite stainless steel pipes.
CONSTITUTION: Austenite stainless steel pipes 1 are butt welded by ordinary welding 2, after which rings 3 made of steel are mounted and welded to the outside surface of said steel pipes 1 on both sides with the weld zone thereof in-between. After this, strain is given to the weld zone via these rings 3. At the mounting of the rings 3, a cooling medium is passed within the steel pipes 1 to avoid the temperature rise of the steel pipes 1.
