Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the titled vessel with high resistance to external force by adding a thickener to a soln. of an alkali salt necessary for ion exchange, applying the thickener-added soln. to a glass vessel while making the amount to the inner surface larger than the amount to the outer surface, and heat-treating the vessel.
CONSTITUTION: A thickener such as starch, gelatin or natural gum is added to an aqueous soln. or a suspension of an alkali salt such as KNO3 or KCl necessary for ion exchange in such an amount that the viscosity is adjusted preferably to 10W 2,000cps, preparing a pastelike fluid. This fluid is applied to a glass vessel while making the amount to the inner surface larger than the amount to the outer surface, and the vessel is heat treated under conditions for attaining high compressive stress velues, i.e., a temp. 15W85°C below the glass strain point and about 7W30min combined with conditions for increasing compressive stress layers, i.e., a temp. 15°C below the strain point W a temp. 30°C above the strain point and several min. Thus, the titled glass vessel is obtd.
