Abstract

PURPOSE: To detect the temp. condition of a mold under calcination from the color of the mold itself, and to control the calcination of the mold visually and easily by coating an aqueous soln. of Cd(NO3)2 on the refractory layer provided on a wax pattern then calcining the same.
CONSTITUTION: A wax pattern 1 is immersed in an ethyl silicate soln. 2 mixed with fine Zr sand or the like to cover the surface of the pattern 1. Before this covering layer dries up, coarse sand 3 is sprinkled thereon, thereby forming a sanding layer. This covering and sanding are repeated alternately to form a refractory layer 4 on the pattern 1. Then, an aqueous soln. contg. Cd(NO3)2 and food coloring additives such as red colors Nos. 2, 3 and the like is coated 5 on part or the whole of the surface of said layer 4. The pattern 1 provided with the layer 4 is then heated and calcined for a prescribed time (about 1hr) in a prescribed temp. (about 1,000°C) in a heating furnace 6 to allow the wax corresponding to the pattern 1 part to elute, thereby forming a mold cavity 7 and making a lost wax mold 8. A casting product of the same shape as that of the pattern 1, that is, high dimensional accuracy and beautiful casting surface is cast by this mold 8.
