Abstract
PURPOSE: To produce a core which is highly pressure resistant and is easily collapsible by heat treatment by using a thermosetting resin as a binder.
CONSTITUTION: Silica sand, zircon sand, etc. are used as aggregate for a sand core, and a binder for shell molds of a phenolic resin etc. is used as an org. binder. These constituting parts are mixed and a sand core is molded. Next, a slurry consisting of an aqueous alkaline soln. prepd. by mixing powdery refractories and a water-soluble thermosetting resin is coated on the surface of this and core, and this is dried and calcined, whereby the 1st coating layer is formed. Next, an aqueous soln. contg. synthetic mica is coated on the surface of the sand core having been formed with this 1st coating layer and is dried, whereby the 2nd coating layer is formed. In the 2nd coating layer, synthetic mica sticks by assuming a laminar state, and this obviates the occurrence of the disadvantage that the molten metal penetrates in the core.
