Abstract
PURPOSE: To contrive to shorten the time required for starting operation and the duration of a nodischarge operation of a pump by a method wherein set points are provided respectively for the discharge pressure of a runner and the opening of a main valve of an inlet valve, and a pumping operation is started when said pressure and said opening have reached the respective set points independently.
CONSTITUTION: In a shutdown condition, the runner 1 is at rest, the discharge pressure of the runner 1 is zero, an air supply valve 10 for water level depression and an exhaust valve 11 are fully closed, and a side valve 13, a downstream-side seal 14, the main valve 8 of the inlet valve 8 and a guide vane 6 are also fully closed. When starting the machine from said shutdown condition, the valve 10 is opened to depress the water level in a runner chamber 12, thereby exposing the runner 1 into air. Next, a generator-motor 2 is operated to rotate the runner 1, and when the runner 1 reaches the rated rotation, the valve 10 is closed while the valve 11 is opened, then the air in the chamber 12 is exhausted and the valve 13 is opened to a predetermined valve position. Then the seal 14 is opened and the main valve 8 is opened to the set opening point. On the other hand, when the discharge pressure of the runner reaches the set point as a result of the discharge of air from the chamber 12, the vane 6 is opened and the pumping operation is started on condition that both the opening of the valve 8 and the discharge pressure of the runner 1 have reached the respective set points.
