Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve in the reliability of sewage pumps in a parallel arrangement by making a discharge flow from a pump on driving counterflow to a pump on resting so as to flush and remove foreign matters stuck to an impeller and stationary vanes of the pump on resting.
CONSTITUTION: During operation of pumps 10, 11, the shaft power of these pumps 10, 11 is observed, and counterflow operation is carried out to the pumps 10, 11 when the shaft power is increased above an allowable value due to foreign matters stuck to an imprller and stationary vanes. In this case, for example, a valve 16 for the pump 10 is closed, a motor 12 is stopped, a discharge valve 15 is closed, the open degree of the valve 17 for the pump 11 is made small and an intake valve 14 is closed. In this state, the pump 11 is operated in a cut-off condition, and the pump 11 comes to a stop. Therefore, when the valve 16 for the pump 10 is suitably opened, counterflow is established through the pump 10 so as to flush and remove foreign matters stuck to the impeller and stationary vanes. Then a similar manner can be made to another pump 10 so that the discharged flow from the pump 10 is fed to the discharge port of the pump 11 in a counterflowing manner for flushing and removing foreign matters stuck to the impeller and the stationary vanes.
