Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent vibration of guide vanes of a reversible pump turbine by means that if a deteriorated guide vane is damaged and ready to turn in the closing direction, other normally operated guide vane may be kept opened.
CONSTITUTION: A guide vane and an inlet valve are simultaneously closed on the basis of instruction of a main engine stop caused by factors except a damage of a deteriorated parts. In operation, if a deteriorated parts are damaged, the closing action of the inlet valve is stopped and that opening of the valve at the point of the damage is kept. On the other hand, immediately after fully closing motion, another guide vane normally operated is opened, having the inlet valve fully closed from the rest of the closing motion. After current is shut off, the guide vane normally operated is fully closed. It is not until the revolutional speed of the main engine is low enough that a mechanical brake is used to stop the engine. As the flow rate of water leaking from the damaged guide vane is lower than that through another normally operated guide vane, water hummer is reduced and the guide vane can be prevented from vibration.
