Abstract

PURPOSE: To enable a safe termination of a major machine by a method wherein when a guide vane is not operated to close under an emergency stop, this codition is sensed and the runner vanes are fully opened, then the flowing water is shut off by other flow shut-off mechanism.
CONSTITUTION: Servo-motor 3 is operated to close under an instruction for closing the guide vanes 2 obtained from a water wheel governor in case of a shut-off of load or an emergency stop of the operation. At this time, a hydraulic pressure found in the servo motor 3 is sensed, and when the pressure is acknowledged as one lower than the predetermined hydraulic pressure, a solenoid for use in opening the runner vanes 4 is operated, and the runner vanes 4 are operated to occupy a maximum angle. Thereby, a centrifugal force acting upon the water wheel and the rotary body directly connected thereto is decreased to about 1/2 of the maximum nonrestricting speed, and at the same time the flowing stream is shut off by other flowing stream shut-off mechanism, thereby the main machine may safely be stopped.
