Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain an alloy steel having superior corrosion and wear resistances for a steel pipe for steam used in the geothermal generation of electricity by adding a specified amount of Si to an Ni-Cr type alloy steel to form a structure contg. δ-ferrite in the austenite matrix.
CONSTITUTION: A steel pipe for hot water and hot steam used in the geothermal generation of electricity is made of alloy steel contg. <0.08% C, 1W5% Si, <2% Mn, 15W26% Cr, 6W12% Ni and 0.5W3% Mo. Since this steel contains Ni and Mn as austenite structure stailibzing elements and Cr as a ferrite forming element, a two-phase structure contg. 10W60 vol% δ-ferrite in the austenite matrix is formed and this steel has superior resistance to general corrosion, intergranular corrosion and stress sion. The yield strength and tensile strength are enhanced without deteriorating the toughness, and the addition of Si improves the strength and hardness. This steel shows very high resistance to hot water and steam contg. H2S and Cl-1, and it is suitable for use as a steel pipe for the geothermal generation of electricity.
