Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain superior normal and reversal copied images using the same photoreceptor and the same developer, by overlaying a toner image on a transfer material and subjecting the backside of the transfer material to AC corona discharge selectively superposed with a DC voltage different in quantity and polarity from each other in accordance with the negative and positive originals, respectively. CONSTITUTION:A first charger 4, and a second charger 8 are installed in a photoreceptor formed by laminating a photoconductive layer 2 and an insulating layer 3 on a conductive substrate 1, and a positive image is transferred from a negative original or a positive original using a conductive magnetic developer 15. The photoreceptor is negatively charged with the charger 4, positively charged with the charger 5, then exposed 13 to an optidal original image, and subjected to AC corona discharge superposed with negative DC voltage from the backside of a transfer material with a corotron 18 for transfer to transfer a positive image from a negative original, whereas subjected to AC corona discharge superposed with positive DC voltage to transfer a positive image from a positive original, thus permitting a superior image having high density and good reproducibility to be obtained in both cases.
