PURPOSE: To prevent the occurrence of the after-fire while retaining comfortableness in driven by a method wherein the operation of an ignition coil is interrupted for a predetermined period of time during a rapid deceleration, and the secondary air is introduced into an exhaust-gas passage at least during said period of time.
CONSTITUTION: Negative-pressure switches 8, 9 are provided in an intake manifold 3 so that a high load on the engine is detected by the switch 8 and the full-closing of a throttle valve 3a is detected by the switch 9. For example, the switch 8 is designed to generate a signal "0" when the intake negative-pressure is not lower than -150mmHg and to generate a signal "1" when the negative pressure is lower than that value. On the other hand, the switch 9 is so designed, for instance, as to generate a signal "0" when the intake negative-pressure is not higher than -500mmHg and to generate a signal "1" when the negative pressure is higher than that value. When a rapid closing of the throttle valve 3a is detected by a rapid-deceleration detector 11 through the switches 8, 9, an ignition control circuit 12 is controlled so that the supply of an ignition signal from an ignition signal generator 13 to the ignition coil 14 is interrupted for the predetermined period of time, for instance, 2sec.
