Abstract

PURPOSE:To detect the abrasion and breakage of a small-diamter tool by a method wherein an amplifying device fitted with a small-diameter tool is inserted in the tip of a main shaft and the torque applied to the rotation stopper of the housing for the above device is measured by a load meter, thus the cutting torque detected indirectly. CONSTITUTION:A main shaft 2 is borne by a quill 1, while a speed-amplifying device 4 fitted with a small-diamter tool 3 is fitted in a tapering hole positioned at the tip of the main shaft 2. The device 4 is engaged with a positioning block 7 composed of a rotation-stopper arm 6 fixed on to the end surface of the quill 1. The arm 6 is provided projectingly in the shape of a letter L on a housing in which a planet- gear mechanism is enclosed so that the housing 5 may not rotate with the rotation of the main shaft. To the block 7 is fitted a load meter 8, by which the torque of the housing is detected and thus, through calculation of the relation with the torque value of te tool 3, the defect of the tool 3 can be detected.
