Abstract

PURPOSE:To easily and accurately measure the maximum value of the pitch circle of a gear by providing overpin holders to the anvil and spindle of a micrometer. CONSTITUTION:This instrument is equipped with the overpin holders 8 and 8a provided on the anvil 5 and spindle 6 of the micrometer 7, overpin holding holes 10 formed therein, and overpins 1 and 1a which are provided on those holding holes and abut on the end parts of the anvil 5 and spindle 6. Further, the gear 3 is positioned between the pins 1 and 1a after the spindle 6 is rotated and moved back, and a gauge is read directly while the pins 1 and 1a are accurately position in the tooth part 4 (thread) on the 180 deg. opposite straight line of the gear 3 and the spindle 6 is stopped from rotating. Consequently, the maximum value of the pitch circle is measured and an operator, therefore, takes an invariably unchanged measurement with high accuracy without reference to his or her experience.
