Abstract
NEW MATERIAL:An S-methylcysteinamide expressed by formula I (R1 is H, methyl or ethyl) and a salt thereof.
USE: A stimulating agent for the hepatic DNA synthesis and a remedy for hepatitis.
PROCESS: An S-methylcysteine of formula II (R2 is a protecting group of the amino group) or a reactive derivative thereof or an S-methylcysteine ester of formula III (R3 is lower alkyl), e.g. methyl ester of S-methyl-L-cysteine, is reacted with a compound of the formula R1NH2, e.g. ammonia, preferably in excess, usually in the presence of a base, e.g. triethylamine, in an organic solvent, e.g. methanol, at room temperature or under cooling. The protecting group of the amino group is then removed or the reaction mixture is neutralized if necessary to give the compound of formula I.
