EXAMPLE: 1-(2, 3- O -Isopropylidene-5- O -acetyl-β- D -ribofuranosyl)2-oxo-5-cyanomethyl-4-imidazoline-4-carboxylic acid methyl ester.
USE: Intermediate of an intiviral substnace 3-deazaguanosine.
PROCESS: An alkyl ester or an aralkyl ester of 1-β-D-ribofuranosyl-2-oxo-5-acyloxymethyl-4-imidazoline-4-corboxylic acid of formula II (R2 is acyl) is reacted with a cyanide anion to afford the compound III. The compound II is novel compound which can be prepared from a compound III (R' is alkoxy or aralkyl).
