Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain coal absorbing no moisture again and to increase the yield of dry coal, by emulsifying tar present in a gas evolved at a coal heating step in water, and condensing and cooling the tar on the surface of coal.
CONSTITUTION: Coal dehydrated to an extent of moisture content ≤ about 2wt% in fluidized layer 2 at a heating step, is supplied through line 24 to fluidized layer 3 at a cooling step. A gas contg. about 10vol% or less oxygen at 100W250°, is supplied through line 16 as a fluidizing gas for the fluidized layer 3, and an emulsion consisting of tar and water is atomized or injected through line 25, serving to cool the coal. Inside the fluidized layer being at a temp. of 80W120°C, the tar in the emulsion condenses and sticks to the surface of coal, which is coated with the tar. Being supplied through line 27, air at atmospheric temp. further cools the coal coated with the tar and a product coal is discharged at 50W70°C through line 30.
