Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain uniform good char capable of giving coke having a high level of strength and recover a high calorific dry distillation gas, by feeding a highly volatile non or slightly caking coal through a preheating apparatus to an external heating double rotary kiln, and dry distilling the coal at a slow rate therein according to a specific heating pattern.
CONSTITUTION: Tar is added to a highly volatile non or slightly caking coal and dried in a fluidized preheating apparatus 3, and preheated at 250W300°C for about 30min. The coal is then charged into an external heating double rotary kiln 5, dry distilled at a heating rate of 5±3°C/min for 40W75min at a slow rate and kept at 450W600°C for 10W30min. The resultant char thus dry distilled at a slow rate is cooled in a fluidized bed cooler 9 by blowing an inert gas therein and taken out by a conveyor 10. The product char has a VM of 15W20%, a high density and strength, and usable directly as a raw material for molded coke.
