Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the coking characteristics of a low-grade coal, and to replace a part of mixed coal for a raw material of metallurgical coke, by preheating the low-grade coal with a rotary drum heater, and effectively binding with a binder.
CONSTITUTION: A low grade coal 1 having a Giesler fluidity of ≤30 DDPM (JIS M8801) and a CSN of ≤4, is fed in the first rotary drum 2, and preheated at 300W 400°C, pref about 350°C in the atmosphere of combustion gas 18 containing ≤3% of oxygen, produced by a combustion furnace 17, to prevent the deterioration of the quality of the coal, and to modify the surface of the coal particles completely. The preheated coal having a volatile content of 3W7% is charged together with liquefied coal 4 as a binder into the second rotary drum 5, and granulated in the atmosphere of the combustion gas 18 containing ≤3% of oxygen. 80W90% of the granules are those having particle diameters of ≤3mm. The granule thus manufactured give a dense brequette.
