Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain coke, which has a sufficient strength as coke for blast furnaces, from a low-fluidity blended coal, by a method wherein the blended coal whose max. fluidity is adjusted within a specified range, or a mixture of said blended coal and a binder is preheated and then dry-distilled.
CONSTITUTION: A blended coal having a property in which max. fluidity is 0.5W 2.3log DDPM, or a mixture of said blended coal and a binder is preheated to 100W 200°C, and then dry-distilled to produce coke for blast furnaces. The reason why Gieseler fluidity of the blended coal obtd. by blending caking coal with coal of poor quality is specified within the range of 0.5W2.3log DDPM, is that when the fluidity is below 0.5, DI30/15 which is the standard strength as coke for blast furnaces, does ot reach 92, even though the blended coal is preheated to optimum preheating temperature. When the fluidity exceeds 2.3l, the strength of coal due to preheating is only slightly improved and thus such fluidity has no advantage from an economical point of view.
