Abstract

NEW MATERIAL:ML-236C derivatives shown by formula I [R is alkyl, benzyl which may be substituted with alkyl, alkoxy or halogen, formula II (M is metallic element)].
EXAMPLE: ML-236C methyl ester.
USE: Cholesterol synthesis inhibitor in livers: they have stronger activity than ML- 236C and are used as a remedy for hyperlipemia or prophylactic for arteriosclerosis.
PREPARATION: ML-236C of formula III is saponified with a weak alkali to produce a carboxylic metal salt of formula I. Or, (a) the reaction of a compound of formula III with an alcohol, (b) the reaction of the carboxylic metal salt cited above with an alkyl halide or (c) the neutralization of the above carboxylic metal salt, followed by reaction of the resultant free ML-236C carboxylic acid with an alcohol, affords a carboxylic ester of formula I.
