Abstract
PURPOSE: To enable to evacuate only the required part of a cylindrical body by a method wherein a hollow ring shape elastic member inflatable with the internal pressure is provided at both sides of the vacuum chamber formed to sheathe the outer periphery of the cylindrical body.
CONSTITUTION: The outer periphery of the cylindrical assembly to be welded 1 is sheathed over a prescribed length with the vacuum chamber 7. At both sides of the vacuum chamber are fitted housing 10 respectively fixing smoothly and movably on the cylindrical assembly through a holder 11 and bearings 12. The hollow ring shape elastic tube 19 is installed in the holder 11 and inflated with the internal pressure through an air supply port 16 to be urged against the surface of the cylindrical assembly to seal. A back plate 20 is moved onto the surface of the assembly to be welded 1 by the eccentrical rotation of a lever 27 to prevent the ring shape tube 19 from swelling out. By corrugating the surface of the ring shape tube 19, multiple seal is obtained to be able to seal even rough surface. Further, the vacuum is maintained during the rotation of the cylindrical assembly to be welded because the smoothly movable fixing parts consisting of the holder 11 and bearings 12 are provided between the housings 10 and the cylindrical assembly to be welded 1.
