Abstract

PURPOSE: To offer a support for a lighographic machine plate excellent in endurance, by electrolytically etching an aluminum plate or an aluminum alloy plate.
CONSTITUTION: An aluminum plate or an aluminum alloy plate containing silicon, magnesium, iron, etc. is degreased and cleaned with a solvent or the like, and then electrolytically etched in an aqueous electrolyte solution containing hydrochloric acid and an unsaturated carboxylic acid or its salt. The aqueous electrolyte solution in generatl has the solution concentration of 0.1W1mol/l of hydrochloric acid and 0.01W1mol/l of the unsaturated carboxylic acid or its salt, to make microscopically uniform etch pits. The etching is continued 5W120sec in the solution of a temperature 10W70°C at a current density of 20W200A/dm2. Each pit in the electrolytically etched aluminum plate is sufficiently closed together, so that the etched aluminum plate has a grained surface including dense deep pits and few plateaux.
