Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a support for planographic printing plate excellent in hydrophilic property, adhesive property for a photosensitive layer and durability, by electrolytically etching an aluminum plate in a specified electrolytic solution.
CONSTITUTION: The surface of an aluminum plate or an aluminum alloy plate is previously degreased and washed to remove dust and the like. Then, the thus cleaned surface is electrolytically etched in an electrolytic solution containing 3.5W 35g/l, preferably 7W21g/l of hydrochloric acid and 0.01W20g/l of phenols, usually at a current density of 20W200A/dm2, to obtain a printing plate in which the diameters of pits are uniform, the pits are sufficiently close to each other and flat trapezoid parts are little. As preferably phenols, dyhydric and trihydric phenols such as catechol, resorcinol and pyrogallol may be used. The thus obtained printing plate is excellent in adhesive property for a photosensitive layer and in durability.
