Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain steel with low P, S, H and O contents inexpensively and easily by pouring molten steel into a ladle, blowing a gas to agitate the steel, removing slag, and carrying out evacuation treatment and agitation by gas blowing.
CONSTITUTION: Refined molten steel is poured into a ladle having a tightly sealed cover, and a heating electrode is dipped in slag on the steel to heat the steel. A flux for refining is then added, and a gas for agitation is blown through a dipped lance to agitate the molten steel and the slag on the steel in an oxidizing gaseous atmosphere. After removing the slag the molten steel in the ladle is degassed by evacuation treatment. The flux is added again, and an inert gas is blown to agitate the steel and slag on the steel. By this method of refining molten steel the P, S, H and O contents of molten steel are reduced, and the component regulating capacity is increased.
