Abstract
PURPOSE: To prepare anhydrous lithium borofluoride having improved properties as an electrolyte solute of an Li cell, by reacting LiF with BF3 using a specific nonaqueous solvent.
CONSTITUTION: BF3 is reacted with LiF in a nonaqueous solvent, e.g., methyl acetate, ethyl acetate, dimethoxyethane, etc., having a high solubility of LiBF4, forming a complex with BF3, to form a solution once, and an insoluble residue is filtered and removed. BF3 is absorbed into the solution, the solvent is partly or completely converted into a complex to reduce solubility of LiBF4. Or the solvent is concentrated to separate out anhydrous LiBF4 crystal. LiBF4 excellent as a solute of a nonaqueous electrolyte for an Li cell, having extremely low impurities, is prepared.
