Abstract

PURPOSE:To discriminate noise and flaw signals easily and accurately by detecting eddy current flaw detection signals at different phase angles, forming a signal locus pattern in the prescribed phase angle directions and decoding the form numerical value relating to form characteristics. CONSTITUTION:Phase detectors 2, 4 respectively detect the specific signals for the eddy current flaw detection from a detecting part 1 via phase shifters 3, 5 differing in phase by 90 deg. from that of an oscillator 13 and applies these to an operating part 6 of pattern form numerical value via A/D converters 9, 10, etc. Then, the arithmetic part 6 synthesizes the detection output components of orthogonal two axes X, Y differing in phase by 90 deg. to operate and calculate peculiar signal locus patterns B or B', etc. thereby determining the angle alpha etc. of the form numerical value corresponding to the pattern B determined by the prescribed constant K by converted orthogonal axes X', Y' or the intermediate value of B'. This angle alpha is compared with the set value having beforehand been operated and determined by a knows flaw etc., and depending upon whether it is below or above the determined value, the flaw signal and noise signal are discriminated by the form numerical value in the prescribed same phase angle direction, whereby the flaw signal and noise signal are discriminated easily and accurately.
