Abstract

PURPOSE: To enable accurate supersonic flaw detection without the use of numerous probing units by controlling the lock position by means of supersonic flaw detection on the basis of seam position detection signals of the electrically seamed pipe through the seam detector which moves along the circumferential direction.
CONSTITUTION: Seam detector 5 makes reciprocal movement in the circumferentialdirection of electrically seamed pipe 3 through the motor 16, etc., starts up the counting at the expected seam section and detects the position error signal of the seam 4 through the counter, etc. which stops counting at the time of seam detection by means of the detector 5. When the revolution of the motor 11 is controlled on the basis of this signal, the position of the flaw detection block 2 is automatically adjusted and the probing unit is made to face the seam. Thus, it is possible to conduct accurate flaw detection by means of a set of probe unit without providing numerous probes by predicting displacement.
