Abstract

PURPOSE:To carry out edge detection and interedge size measurement easily and rapidly by using three sensors which detect key groove edges and a microcomputer which stores and processes movement routes of those sensors for detection of edges such as key grooves, etc., of rolls. CONSTITUTION:Three sensors 1-3 are so arranged on a sensor set S that H is a little bit greater than the depth (h) of a key groove (k), and W is also a little bit greater than the width (w) of the key groove. When none of sensors is opposed to a part where the key groove of a roll (b) resides, the set is moved in a direction A and the positions where the sensors 1 and 2 operate are an internal diameter edge; and the set is rotated in a circumferential direction and the position where the sensor 1 or 2 operates is the edge of the key groove. When the set is opposed to the key groove, the set is moved in the direction A until where either of the sensors 1 and 2 operates, and then rotated to detect the edge of the key groove through the operation of the sensor 1 or 2. The movement route of the set is stored and processed by a microcomputer to measure interedge size.
