Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a vehicle position detecting apparatus, which comprises a pair of metal members provided on either of the vehicle or the ground such that their spacing is changed gradually in the running direction of the vehicle and a pair of gap sensors provided on the other of the vehicle or the ground for detecting the gap between said metal members and the gap sensors, whereby it is enabled to detect the vehicle position continuously.
CONSTITUTION: Gap sensors 2, 3 are fixed to a lower portion of vehicle 1 at one side of the same, such that these two sensors are located with suitable spacing from each other. On the other hand, a pair of metal members 4, 5 in the form of a straight rod, whose spacing is changed gradually in the running direction of the vehicle 1, are arranged along the track on the ground at the point thereof where the vehicle 1 is required to be stopped automatically. In stopping the vehicle 1, gap A1 is detected by gap sensor 2, whereas gap A2 is detected by another sensor 3.
