CONSTITUTION:The video signal of a TV camera 7 which monitors a welding arc part 6 is integrated within one horizontal scanning period, and is converted to integrated value series relating to scanning line numbers and the integrated value series are processed, whereby apparent arc length L1 and welding core wire projecting size L2 are detected from the scanning line numbers a-f corresponding to the bottom end of a welding core wire 5 and the bottom end of an arc part 6, and the true arc length l1 and true welding core wire projecting size l2 are accurately obtained.
