Abstract

PURPOSE: A metal plate is preoxidized by heating, coated with a glass powder of the same quality as the glass plate to be bonded and the glass plate is brought into contact with the glass layer, then they are heat treated in a nitrogen gas atmosphere, thus the metal is bonded with the glass without deformation.
CONSTITUTION: A Kovar plate is cleaned by the prescribed pretreatment and heated in an oven in an air atmosphere at 630W670°C for 25W30min to form oxide films on the surface. Then, a 100W400 mesh powder of glass of the same quality as the glass plate to be bonded is sprayed on the metal plate using a sieve or the like in a thickness of 0.8W1.5mm uniformly. A clean glass plate to be bonded is placed on the glass powder layer and they are heat treated in an oven kept in a nitrogen atmosphere at 820W850°C for 15W25min. There remains an oxide thinlayer (a) of 2W4μm thickness between the metal plate and the glass and the intermediate diffusion layer (b) composed of glass and the metal oxide spreads thereon with a thickness of 10W30μm. Thus, the amount of the metal oxide reduces as coming up the layer until the layer is composed only of glass plate 3.
