Abstract
PURPOSE: To produce the cast ingot which is capable of preventing the decrease in yield owing to edge cutting after blooming as compared to conventional methods by suspending and supporting the material to be inserted into the mold provided with concave section shapes in the specific portions then pouring molten metal and performing insert casting.
CONSTITUTION: In producing the composite metal cast ingot by an insert method, concave section shape recesses 14 are formed to a mold 10, on the inside walls of the mold 10 of the position opposing to the width direction ends 13 of the material 12 to be inserted being suspended and supported by a support member 11, in the portions approximately opposing to the ends 13 of the foregoing material 12, and the relation of the inside wall size l of the mold 10 and the size l1 of the material 12 to be inserted is made l<l1. After the above-mentioned material 12 is suspended in the above-mentioned mold 10, molten steel is poured through a sprue 15, whereby the steel ingot 16 formed with convex parts 17 at the broadside ends is obtained. At the time when this cast ingot 16 is bloomed to a slab, it improves the sectional shape in the width direction and prevents the decrease in the yield owing to edge cutting.
