Abstract
PURPOSE: To prevent contamination including scale deposition and thereby to produce high-quality polymer particles, by carrying out polymerization while injecting steam into vinyl chloride monomer vapor rising into a reflux condenser.
CONSTITUTION: Vapors of a vinyl chloride monomer or the like is passed through a transfer conduit 7 to a reflux condenser 2, condensed therein while they are flowing down from the top of the condenser 2 and recirculated into a polymerization tank 1 through a circulation conduit 8. Steam is injected countercurrently into the rising vapor of a monomer such as vinyl chloride from a steam injection port 4 provided in a supply conduit 7 between the polymerization tank 1 and the reflux condenser 2. Here, the steam conduit 3 has a control valve 6 and a flow rate detector and controller 5 so that a definite amount of steam is fed from the steam injection port 4. The amount of steam injected from the steam injection port 4 is 1W 20%, pref. 2W15%, of the monomer such as vinyl chloride, condensed in the reflux condenser 2.
