Abstract
PURPOSE:To enable the noncontact detection of the slag entering molten steel near the end of continuous casting by disposing a primary coil and a secondary coil with the molten steel flow in-between and detecting the change in the magnetic flux transmitting through the molten steel. CONSTITUTION:A primary coil 10 and a secondary coil 12 are disposed at a fixed spacing with the molten steel 3 flowing out through a nozzle 2 in-between. AC current of a constant frequency and constant amplitude in supplied to the primary coil 10. When the magnetic field from the coil 10 transmits through the molten steel 3, it intersects with the coil 12, thereby generating voltage in the coil 12. When slag enters the molten steel 3, the voltage generated in the coil 12 increases. This voltage is amplified with an amplifier 13 and is measured by using a voltmeter or the like. By this method, the amount of slag inclusion is detected in the absence of contact.
