Abstract

PURPOSE: To facilitate the measurement of flow rate of a magnetic liquid, by magnetizing a portion of the magnetic liquid in a duct, detecting the passing of the magnetized portion in terms of electromagnetic induction and measuring the time of the passing through a prescribed section.
CONSTITUTION: The portion of the magnetic liquid in the duct 1 is magnetized by a magnetizer 2. The passing of the magnetized portion is detected in terms of electromagnetic induction by a first and a second detectors 4 which are located downstream to the magnetizer 2 and separated at a distance of l2 from each other. The difference γ between the peak times measured by the detectors is calculated. The flow rate Q of the magnetic liquid is determined on the basis of a formula Q=α(l2/γ)A where α denotes a compensation coefficient based on the distribution of the flow rate in the duct and A denotes the cross-sectional area of the duct.
