Abstract

PURPOSE: To detect accurately the slag passing start point into nozzle, bringing the probe coil close to the ladle nozzle, giving vibrations, and detecting the damping start point of lift-off fluctuation electric signal caused in the coil by vibrations.
CONSTITUTION: When pouring molten steel 10 in a ladle 30 into a continuous casting facility 40, a driving device 50 is operated when slag 11 is about to approach the ladle bottom so as to bring a probe coil 44 and a vibrator 42 close to a bozzle 12, and constant current of fixed frequency is applied to excite the coil, and the coil is vibrated at constant amplitude and fixed frequency while controlling the vibrator with a control device 46, and a lift-off fluctuation electric signal caused due to fluctuation of distance between the coil and the molten steel in the nozzle is detected by a detecting device 48. Since the signal is damped suddenly when the slag flows into the nozzle, a cylinder 32 is operated automatically by a control circuit in the detecting device, thereby closing a gate 34.
