Abstract

PURPOSE: To detect the inflow of slag into an intermediate vessel and to decrease the amt. of the slag flowing therein as far as possible in the case of charging molten metal from a ladle into the intermediate vessel by detecting the oscillations of the intermediate vessel and comparing the same with a reference value.
CONSTITUTION: When charging into a tundish 5 is started by opening a nozzle 2, molten steel 4 flows and as a result the tundish 5 oscillates. The oscillations are detected with a pickup 8, and are amplified with an amplifier 9. The amplified oscillations are inputted to an oscillation displacement output device 10, from which the signal corresponding to the oscillation of the tundish 5 is transmitted to an amplifier 11. When the molten steel 4 in a ladle 1 is flowed out roughly fully, and slag begins to flow into the tundish 5, the oscillations of the tundish 5 decrease, and the output value from the device 10 in accordance with the detection signal of the pickup 8 decreases. As a result, a charging end signal output device 12 transmits an end signal in accordance with the output of an operater 11, and an opening-closing cylinder 3 is operated by this signal to close the nozzle 2, whereby the charging is stopped.
