Abstract

PURPOSE: To enhance the bendability of a resulting extramild steel pipe for piping by tubularly forming a steel contg. impurities reduced as little as possible and a very small amount of added B and by adding a heat treatment at a specified temp.
CONSTITUTION: A steel consisting of, by wt., ≤0.01% C, ≤0.05% Si, ≤0.40% Mn, ≤0.025% P, ≤0.025% S, ≤0.050% sol. Al, 0.0005W0.0030% B and the balance Fe and inevitable impurities is tubularly formed and heat treated at 850W 900°C. The addition of such a very small amount of B prevents a strength rise due to strain aging, and the yield strength after repeated bending can be controlled to a relatively low level. The resulting steel pipe is softened by heating for a short time.
