Abstract
PURPOSE: To perform welding of high quality without preheating by buttering the groove face of a base material at a welding start side while performing build-up welding to a prescribed height from the reverse surface of the welded part after previously forming penetration beads by pulse TIG-arc welding before the welding.
CONSTITUTION: When thick copper plate 1 of a member to be welded is welded without preheating, penetration beads are formed by pulse TIG-arc welding using a pure copper wire with tab plate 2 touched before welding and then while build- up welding 3 is done to a thickness of at least 8mm from the reverse surface of member 1 to be welded, the edge surface of the base material at the welding start side is buttered 4. Then, MIG-arc welding is performed by using the pure copper wire. Thus, excellent joint quality can be obtained with the tab plate shortened by eliminating the need to preheat the thick copper plate.
