Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare the titled foam of density about 0.1W0.01g/cm2, by compounding a vinyl acetate-ethylene copolymer resin, a metal oxide hydrate, a chlorine-contg. flame retarder, a foaming agent and a crosslinking agent, and subjecting the resulting compound to crosslinking and expansion by heating.
CONSTITUTION: A composition consisting of 100pts.wt. resin primarily composed of a vinyl acetate-ethylene copolymer (contg. 50W80wt% vinyl acetate), 50W 300pts.wt. metal oxide hydrate (e.g., aluminum hydroxide powder of average particle size 0.01W20μ), 5W40pts.wt. halogen-contg. flame retarder (e.g., decabromodiphenyl) and 10W50pts.wt. foaming agent (e.g., azodicarbonamide) is mixed with a chemical crosslinking agent (e.g., dicumyl peroxide), and subjected to crosslinking and expansion by being heated. It is permissible to heat and expand the composition after crosslinked by the irradiation of an ionizing radiation of about 1W5Mrad.
