Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare an immobilized enzyme having excellent handleability and high enzymatic activity, by bonding the enzyme to a specific modified PVA fiber.
CONSTITUTION: A modified PVA derived from vinyl acetate and 0.5W15mol% of a copolymerizable unit of formula I (R1 is H or lower alkyl; B is group of formula II or formula III; R2W4 are lower alkyl which may contain a substituent group; X is anion which forms a salt with ammonic nitrogen; A is a group connecting the N is in the B group with the N in the amide group), and having a saponification degree of 80W100mol% of the vinyl acetate unit and a polymerization degree of 500W3,000, is dissolved in water to obtain a 10W50wt% aqueous solution. The solution is spun by wet spinning or dry spinning, drawn, and heat-treated to obtain 0.5W100 denier fibers. The fibrous modified PVA is immersed in an aqueous solution of an enzyme such as invertase at a properly adjusted pH to bond the enzyme to the fibrous PVA.
