Abstract

PURPOSE: A spongy enzyme preparation having stable enzyme activity, and held firmly to the diseases parts, composed of a dried spongy base composed mainly of a specific polymer, and an enzyme included in the base.
CONSTITUTION: A spongy enzyme preparation composed of (A) a dried spongy base composed mainly of a polymer which dissolves in water or gels with water, e.g. gum arabic, methyl cellulose, polyvinyl pyrrolidone, etc., and (B) an enzyme included in the spongy base. The preparation can be easily obtained, without deactivation of the enzyme, by the freeze-drying method. It can be stored for a long time without lowering of the enzymatic activity. Since the preparation gels and becomes adhesive by the permeated body fluid, the enzyme is kept to the surface of the diseased parts firmly, for a long time, to exhibits its effectivity. Especially suitable for the enzyme which is liable to be deactivated in an aqueous solution, e.g. lysozyme, dextranase, etc.
