Abstract

PURPOSE:To ensure a mathcing of fiber axes with the minimum shift of the outer circumference surfaces, by obtaining the two equally divided lines to the outer circumference of the optical fiber having an eccentric core at the center when connecting the eccentric optical fibers. CONSTITUTION:One eccentric fiber 41 to be connected is first put on the supporting member 11 to obtain the two equally divided lines to the outer circumference surface of the fiber 41 having the core 31. These divided lines are then matched to the axis Y1 to be fixed by a clamp. In the same way, for the other eccentric fiber 42, the two equally divied lines are obtained to the outer circumference surface of the fiber 42 having the core 32. Then these divided lines are matched to the axis Y2 of the suppoting member 12 to be fixed at the member 12 by a clamp. The both end faces are placed opposite to each other with the maximum eccentric point turned up. Then a matching is given between the axes Y1 and Y2 to transmit the light, and thus one side of the fiber support member is shifted toward the axis Y. In such way, a matching position is obtained for the both fiber axes at the moment when the maximum light volume is detected.
