Abstract

An optical fibre branching arrangement comprises a pair of optical fibres 1,2 having opposed mitred end faces 3,4 in abutting or close relationship, light reflecting means (not shown) being provided in the vicinity of the mitred joint between the optical fibres for producing partial reflection of light transmitted across the joint into at least one other optical fibre 5,6 extending transversely to the other fibres and having its end face(s) 7,8 in close proximity to the peripheries of the pair of optical fibres 1,2 at the joint so as to receive the partially reflected light at the joint. <IMAGE>
