Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a display device which can be simply manufacture and also can be simply operated, by providing an Mn-activated ZnS field luminous layer on a ZnO ceramic colored so as to have a light filtering characteristic.
CONSTITUTION: A display device is provided with a conductive oxide ceramic region composed mainly of ZnO and a field luminous region composed mainly of Mn-activated ZnS. The conductive oxide region is mixed with one ore more impurities selected from Mn, Tb, Pb, Cr, Cd, Fe, Y, Co, In, Al, Ge, and Ga to color it so as to have a light filtering characteristic. When applying a voltage to the display device with ZnO ceramic as an anode, the Mn-activated ZnS layer near the anode exhibits a luminescence, so that luminescence from the ZnO ceramic side is of a color within the yellowish green to red wave length region according to an additive because the colored ZnO ceramic acts as a light filter.
