Abstract
PURPOSE: To prepare the titled compound useful as a fungicide for agricultural and horticultural use, with one-step reaction, in high yield, by reacting a specific aromatic nitro compound with an aromatic compound in the presence of CO using a rhodium carbonyl complex as a catalyst.
CONSTITUTION: The objective N-aryl benzamide of formula IV is prepared by reacting an aromatic nitro compound of formula R-NO2 [R is group of formula I or II (R1 is H, alkyl, phenyl, acyl, cyano, halogen, etc.)] (e.g. nitrobenzene) with an aromatic compound of formula III (R2 is H, alkyl, alkoxy, or halogen) (e.g. benzene, xylene, etc.) in the presence of CO, using a rhodium carbonyl complex such as Rh4(CO)12 as a catalyst, pref. at 200W250°C for 4W7hr.
EFFECT: The use of a precursor such as aniline, benzoic acid chloride, etc. is not necessary.
