Abstract
NEW MATERIAL:A compound of formula I (X is Cl or Br; R1 is H, halogen, alkyl, or alkoxy; R2 is H, halogen, or alkyl; R3 is H, halogen, alkyl, etc.; R4 is H, halogen, alkyl, etc.).
EXAMPLE: N-Phenyl-N'-(2-fluoro-4-chlorophenyl)-3,4,5,6-tetrahydrophthalamide.
USE: Herbicide effective to monocotyledonous and dicotyledonous weeds, e.g. weeds in paddy rice field, such as tainubie, umbrella plant, etc.
PROCESS: The compound of formula I is prepared by reacting 1mol of a compound of formula II with 0.8 to several moles, pref. 0.9W1.2mole of a compound III in an inert solvent such as benzene at 5W60°C in the presence of a catalyst such as a protonic acid (e.g. HCl) or a Lewis acid.
