CONSTITUTION:Common electrode 6 is formed on lower glass substrate 5 by patterning an electrically conductive transparent thin film, and orienting layers are laid on the opposite surfaces of upper glass substrate 2 and substrate 5 so that the orienting directions are made perpendicular to each other. Outer sealing part 7 and inner sealing part 8 are formed by applying low m.p. glass powder in the form of paste by a screen printing method, superposing substrates 2, 5, and carrying out calcination.
