Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a new-type secondary battery which provides high energy with a low cost, by using a combination of an organic electrolyte with a negative electrode made of Al and a positive electrode made of iron sulfide. CONSTITUTION:The electrolyte of a secondary battery is prepared by either adding a polarization-reducing agent such as an alkylpyridinium halide to an ammonium- chloride organic solvent such as toluene, benzene or tetrahydrofuran, or mixing an alkylpyridinium halide with ammonium chloride. The negative electrode is made of either aluminum or a mixture of aluminum with the group II or IV elements such as tin, lead, manganese or zinc. The positive electrode is prepared from iron sulfide/ iron disulfide alone or a mixture of that with a boride, a carbide, a sulfide, a nitride or carbon. Consequently, a new-type organic-electrolyte battery having high energy- density can be obtained by using a negative electrode made of aluminum, which has low electrochemical equivalent due to its three-electron reaction and which costs less than lithium.
