Abstract
PURPOSE: To properly control the engaging speed of a clutch in response to the running conditions of a vehicle by controlling the air exhausted from an atmospheric chamber of a negative pressure actuator by the magnitude of the negative pressure of an intake pipe.
CONSTITUTION: When the vehicle is started from the stop position, since the pressure in the inlet pipe 4 is at the intermediate pressure, both control valves 30 and 50 are closed. Since a piston 82 is controlled by a valve 86 and an orifice 21, the clutch 2 is slowly engaged. When the gears are shifted to a lower speed during the running and a throttle valve 18 is competely closed, since the negative pressure in the pipe 4 becomes large, the valve 30 is closed and the valve 50 is opened. Since the air in the atmospheric chamber 85 is exhausted from the valve 86, the orifice 21, and a port 52, the clutch 2 is engaged faster in comparison with the speed at the starting described above, and the shock at the engagement is avoided. When the throttle valve 18 is opened at the time of shifting to the high speed, since the negative pressure in the pipe 4 is small, the valve 30 is opend and the valve 50 is closed. Since the air in the atmospheric chamber 58 is exhausted from the valve 86, the orifice 21, and the port 32, the clutch 2 is quickly engaged.
